When Ezekiel B. Zimmerman was born on September 30, 1848, in Chippewa, Ohio, his father, Ezekiel, was 40 and his mother, Rachel, was 27. He married Frances Bliss Hess on March 14, 1877, in Marshallville, Ohio. They had five children in 10 years. He died on September 23, 1935, in Marshallville, Ohio, at the age of 86, and was buried there. Ezekiel was the builder of his Octagon House in Marshallville. He built the house in little over a year, completed in 1883. The house boasts 3 bricks thick, has a gabled Russian Tin roof, and he had indoor plumbing and electricity before all neighboring towns. He built his house using all of the lumber off the property and made and fired all of the bricks in the field south of the house. His property included an orchard north of the house, and his main crop was asparagus.
